Toothless is one of the two main protagonists (alongside Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III) of the How to Train Your Dragon franchise. He is one of the four posthumous overarching protagonists (alongside Valka, Hiccup, and the Light Fury) of Dragons: The Nine Realms.

Toothless is a Night Fury, the rarest and most intelligent species of dragon there is that lived peacefully until they were hunted to near extinction by Grimmel the Grisly, leaving Toothless the last of his kind. He is Hiccup's best friend and mate of the Light Fury.

Differences from source material

• Toothless is a small, green Sea Dragonus Giganticus Maximus and he was mistaken as a common-or-garden dragon initially.
