"Hope. It is the quintessential human delusion. Simultaneously, the source of your greatest strength and your greatest weakness."
- The Architect
The Architect is the Bigger Bad/secondary antagonist of The Matrix trilogy and the creator of the Matrix.
The Architect envisioned the Matrix as a utopia for unconscious humans. However, it was a deep failure. He knew that humans are imperfect, so he redesigned it based on human history. However, it was yet another failure. He encountered an Exile program that was initially created to investigate certain aspects of the human psyche. The Oracle made a solution in whereby nearly 99 percent of all test subjects accepted her as long as they were given a choice. It created a systemic anomaly that peaks every one hundred years. The Architect created Agent Smith, Agent Jones and Agent Brown to fend off the anomaly. The Architect instructed the first five Ones to activate the Source before the extinction of humanity.
A century later, the Architect used a monitor to overlook Neo (the sixth anomaly).
The Matrix Reloaded
The Architect greeted Neo for arriving to his room, but he knew that Neo had quicker thinking and was more focused on love than his five predecessors. Neo decided to never re-activate the Source and rescue Trinity.
