Marinette gets outcasted by her friends thanks to Lila when Marinette tried to prove Lila's arm was actually fine by throwing a napkin at her.

And she has done tomboy moves before, "sneaking" climbing up in(to) Adrien's home, fighting other criminals in her hero form, has gotten angry at people for reasons, some of those still define her perfectly.

She also breaks the fourth wall during her theme song too.

Camelot: hope i'm doing this right, first time i've written on a talk page.

1 Lila turning the class against Marinette is a popular fandom trope used by class salt fanfics and isn't actually supported by canon, the post you link even acknowledges how that is a salters' extreme take on chameleon, Marinette also isn't an outcast due to the napkin incident as that scene was never brought up again and every other episode has Marinette getting along swimmingly with her friends, hell them caring about her is literally the plot of gang of secrets. Additionably, if she was in outcast, she wouldn't have been voted class president nor would her girl squad exist. In fact, an argument could be wager that she is literally the most popular girl in her entire class.

2 breaking and entering isn't her being a tomboy, nor is fighting crime or folks being angry at her. By your logic that means Sailor Moon and every single other girl superhero is a tomboy because they also fight crime, for examples of tomboys, actually look at the category before randomly assigning it to characters or at the very least look at the following examples; Alix Kubdel(mlb), Rainbow dash, Apple Jack(mlp) Wendy Corduroy(Gravity Falls), Marceline the vampire queen(Adventure time)

3 a character narrating the intro/theme song is NOT the same as them breaking the four wall.

Psycomedian revealed her anger/angry, aggresive, and tomboyish side before, and so, that one counts too, especially nearly destroying stuff.

Camelot: 1 Aggression is not the same as being a tomboy, 2 she was turned aggressive by an akuma so even if it did count, which again it doesn't, that fact alone would disqualify it as she is not doing it on her own free will.

Marinette Dupain-Cheng, better known as Ladybug is one of the titular main protagonists of Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir. Marinette is a student in Collège Françoise Dupont. With her Miraculous, inhabited by a kwami named Tikki, she has the power of good luck and can transform into the superhero Ladybug.

In season 3 of the episode "Reflekdoll", she receives the Cat Miraculous from Plagg, which, when inhabited by him, can transform her into Lady Noire, a cat-themed superhero for a mix-up and receives the Mouse Miraculous from Master Fu, which, when inhabited by Mullo, can transform her into Multimouse, a mouse-themed superhero.

Description[]

Appearance[]

Marinette is a quarter Italian, a quarter French, and half-Chinese. She has vivid azure eyes, light scarlet lipsticks, freckles, and black hair with blue highlights that she usually wears back in two pigtails with red bands.

As a civilian, she wears a dark gray dress blazer with sleeves and a collar that are white with pink polka dots and outlined with black. Underneath, she wears a white t-shirt with a black collar and sleeve line, and a design below the collar with black leaves and pink flowers. Also, she has pink jeans and very reddish-brown soled light pink ballet shoes. She wears earrings that are black when not holding Tikki.

As Ladybug, she wears a red ladybug-themed superhero black turtleneck collared jumpsuit with black spots. Above her hips, she wears her yo-yo around them with the string, and she wears a red mask with black spots. Her earrings become red with five black spots, and the bands holding her hair back become red ribbons. Her hair and her eyes become slightly bluer.

As Lady Noire, she wears a black collared suit and cat ears with green lining. Her hair turns a blueish-black and grows a braid at the back, and the sclera of her eyes turn green. She also wears a black mask.

As Multimouse, she wears a gray and pink bodysuit with black gloves and a gray and pink mask. On her neck, she wears the Mouse necklace. She also has a jump rope around her waist that serves as a "tail". When she unifies other kwamis with Mullo, the pink parts on her suit and mask change color to reflect it.

In the Season 5 finale, "The Final Day", as Bug Noire, her bodysuit is a hybrid of her appearance as Ladybug and Lady Noire, sporting red, green, and black on it. She still wears her Ladybug domino mask, which remains unchanged, save for a slight adjustment over the bridge of her nose to accompany the Lady Noire design, and her headband with the cat ears, now sporting red on the back of them with the green highlights and black, but her eyes become green with four black dots around the main pupil, styled like on her yo-yo, her pigtails become long and braided, but become only half as long as her main one as Lady Noire, which she also keeps, giving her three pigtails, and her yo-yo becomes black with green spots while also sporting the staff provided by the Cat Miraculous with a red pawprint on it. The polka dots on her suit either remain black on the red areas of the suit, or become green on the black areas of the suit. Because of her and Cat Noir unlocking the Ladybug and Cat Miraculous' full powers in "Revolution", Marinette is able to fight Gabriel Agreste/Monarch at her full strength, using the full powers of the Miraculous of Creation and Miraculous of Destruction to defeat him.

In the special Miraculous Paris, when Marinette, as Ladybug, is willingly Kamikotized into the superheroine Ladybiquity by Betterfly, her hair becomes a deep purple and her pigtails become voluptuous and extend down to her knees, and her costume becomes a combination of Ubiquity's and Ladybug's, becoming a mixture of red and purple, her domino mask becomes all red with three small dots in decreasing size going down the middle between her eyes, the polka dots on the torso, arms, and legs become a bright white, she sports a pair of headphones styled after her yo-yo with five white dots on each one in a similar style to on her yo-yo, and she also sports a light purple cape that extends down to her feet and is attached to her wrists. She still sports her yo-yo in this form with a purple string tied around her waist. Her parallel counterparts seen in other universes that Monarch goes to either sport a similar design, or if they are not using the Ladybug Miraculous, look similar to Alya when she is Ubiquity, or if they are using the Cat Miraculous, sport a hybrid of Ubiquity and Lady Noire's designs.

When she becomes Chronobug in Miraculous London, her suit is a mixture of black and yellow, possibly to help tell her apart from the other past Marinette/Ladybug/Bug Noire she encounters while trying to stop Lila/Cerise from finding out her identity, maybe also due to the life vest she was given by Bunnyx to help avoid Bunnyx confusing her for another Marinette during their attempts to stop Lila/Cerise. The spots/polka dots also become reflective, like mirrors, and illuminate when in darkened areas.

Starting in Season 6 under the new Unreal Engine animation style, Ladybug's suit now sports a slightly-overhauled appearance to her modified suit from the SAMG animation style in Seasons 4 and 5. The ends of her pigtails now fade from blue to red, and she looks slightly older.

Personality[]

Marinette is a sweet, outgoing, joyful, and generous yet clumsy girl who loves fashion, her friends and family, and her crush Cat Noir. But she does struggle with self-confidence and self-esteem. If a situation she deems is dangerous, like doing something for Adrien or losing a book that will expose her secret identity, she becomes very nervous and awkward, failing to keep calm and being quick to panic.

She deeply cares for other people, and she usually puts their feelings and interests before her own, in some cases being at a personal cost. Despite being genuinely kind, she does have her limits, such as in "The Evillustrator", when she gets irritated with Chloé to the point that, as Ladybug, she refuses to continue watching her to protect her. She can also act impulsively and irrationally at times, as shown when she tries to deflect the false accusation of "stealing" Chloé's bracelet onto others who are also innocent.

Although she is absentminded and acts before thinking at times, mostly if Adrien is involved or she is panicking about a dilemma, she is extremely clever, like hiding her signature in her bowler hat design that exposes Chloé for stealing her design.

She also takes advice from others very well whether it's family or friends seen in "Malediktator", "Heroes' Day", and other episodes.

As Ladybug, Marinette retains many of her alter ego's characteristics, but she is much stronger. Her confidence and bravery come out more prominently. Her quick-thinking, resourcefulness, and wits are more obvious, especially when she is figuring out how to utilize her Lucky Charm. Marinette strives to rescue everyone, including those akumatized by Hawk Moth. No matter the difficulty of her tasks, she does everything in her power to set things right while keeping up with her everyday responsibilities, like designing something or working in the bakery. Like Cat Noir, Ladybug is clever with her words and occasionally enjoys making puns.

She has a more serious side when fighting against Hawk Moth's villains, as opposed to Cat Noir's laid-back and goofy personality. At times, she enjoys teasing him and others, while she can get exasperated, she handles joking calmly. Marinette as Ladybug is more cautious and careful than Cat Noir sometimes needing to restrain or stop him from doing hasty acts seen in several episodes. As her alter ego, Marinette strives to keep her personal and superhero lives separate to protect herself, the people she knows or she is close to. She is also great at advising others when they need it. With her greater confidence, she aims to be honest with others in other ways, like her honesty with Cat Noir about not having romantic feelings for him.

Ladybug believes that a great superhero always listens to their head, meaning that she isn't easily fooled or swayed by deceptions and lies and she learns that justice is always the answer than revenge.

In "Mayura", she also acknowledges that good things come by doing good actions and that not all problems can be solved by wishing them away, especially at the expense of hurting the innocent.

In "Heart Hunter", the sheer amount of responsibilities that she has combined with Adrien apparently falling in love with Kagami and having unknowingly led Hawk Moth right to Master Fu finally causes her to break down and cry in Luka's arms as well as Cat Noir's in "Miracle Queen".

However, because of the big burden she has as Guardian, Ladybug becomes very protective of the Miraculous under her care in a way that started to affect her friendship and partnership with Cat Noir, as she starts to neglect him and take him for granted, like calling other heroes to help her instead of him or not trusting in him to retrieve the Miraculous from the holders whose identities he knows. After Hawk Moth manages to steal all the Miraculous in the Miracle Box (except for hers and Cat Noir's), Ladybug feels guilty and drowns in her own despair, thinking she had lost everything, and realizes her other mistakes, until Cat Noir reminds her that she still has him, the faith of all Parisians and ensuring her they will retrieve all of the Miraculous back, and make sure they are not stolen again. His speech is able to fill her with the hope she needed to stand up and keep fighting.

Skills[]

Powers[]

As a result, she is given a pair of earrings known as the Ladybug Miraculous, which when worn grant Marinette the ability to transform into Ladybug, her superhero alias.

As the holder of a Miraculous, Marinette is assisted by a small red creature resembling a ladybug called Tikki, who is a magical being known as a Kwami. As Ladybug, Marinette's signature ability is creation.

  • Magic materialization: her special power, Lucky Charm, allows her to create an object that assists her in her mission.
  • De-evilization: she opens up her yo-yo, captures the akuma inside and catches it in her hand, purifying the akuma into a normal butterfly before releasing it.
  • Restoration: her secondary power, Miraculous Ladybug, can magically repair all the damage caused by the power of the cat, butterfly or peacock miraculous.

As Aquabug[]

  • Aquatic respiration: she is able "to breathe normally underwater".
  • Enhanced swimming speed: thanks to the fins on her suit, she can swim much faster than normal.

As Lady Ice[]

  • Freezing immunity: her ice suit allows her to resist extremely cold temperatures.
  • Enhanced ice skating: her ice skating is also enhanced to the point she can skate off wall surfaces and do upside-down flips.

As Cosmo Bug[]

  • Flight: she has a jetpack on her back which allows her to fly.
  • Space breathing: she is also able to breathe in space.

When not using Ladybug Miraculous, she become Lady Noir by using Cat Miraculous with help from Plagg and Multimouse by using Mouse Miraculous with help from Mullo.

As Lady Noir[]

  • Destruction: Lady Noir's special power, Cataclysm, allows her to inflict damage or to easily destroy anything she touches. She also utilizes this ability as Multinoir.
  • Night vision: it is also assumed that Lady Noir has the same ability as Cat Noir, being able to see in the dark.

As Multimouse[]

  • Shrinking replication: Multimouse's special power, Multitude, allows her to make smaller versions of herself by using her jump rope to summon her superpower. She also becomes as small as her copies.
  • Hallucikinesis: one of Multimouse's copies wore the fox miraculous to transform into a mouse and fox-themed superhero. Multifox's special power, Mirage, allows her to create a realistic-looking illusion by playing a song on her flute.

As Dragonbug[]

  • Elemental mimicry: with the dragon miraculous, she had the ability to turn into wind, water or lightning. Instead, she uses her power a little differently.
    • Hydrokinesis: one of her special power's transformations, Water Dragon, allowed her to combine it with her yo-yo and create a water barrier that forced away Miracle Queen and her wasps. She was also able to make openings in the barrier and take it down by will. The only thing that disabled it by force was King Monkey's Uproar on her yo-yo until Snake Noir used his Second Chance to reverse it.

As a civilian[]

  • Levitation: after eating one of Hot Dog Dan's "magic hot dogs", she briefly became weightless and danced with Adrien in mid-air.

Abilities[]

  • Baking: growing up in a bakery, Marinette has been taught how to bake macaroons by her parents.
  • Fashion design: she created a derby hat and signed in a way that tricked Chloe when she tried to steal her design.
  • Flute playing: as Multifox, she can play the flute to summon her power.

Trivia[]

  • The "Ladybug Vision" shown after using her Lucky Charm is not a superpower, but instead a tool to allow the viewer to see what Ladybug is planning to do before it happens.
  • Marinette is similar to Randy Cunningham from Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja.
    • Both main characters are in high school.
    • Both wear red and black.
    • Both solve their problems quickly.
    • Both have a double life.
  • Although not having any romantic feelings towards Cat Noir, in the webisode "Cat Noir as seen by Marinette", Marinette reveals that she's aware he may have a crush on her and she admits she might have given him a chance if Adrien hadn't been around.
    • As of Season 5, however, due to the love square now being reversed (Marinette, as Ladybug, loves Cat Noir, who loves Marinette; Adrien loves Marinette who loves Cat Noir, Adrien's superhero alter-ego), she seems to have a crush on Cat Noir.
  • So far, Marinette has stolen both Adrien's, Alya's, and Chloé's phones during the series. Ironically, however, both thefts were unintentional and involved her trying to hide a fact from the respective owners.
  • In "Stormy Weather", Marinette's infatuation with Adrien is revealed to even include plans for a family. The names of their supposed children are Hugo, Emma, and Louis—all traditional French names. Aside from these, she also appears fond of dogs and especially hamsters.
    • She briefly considers a black cat as well, but she rejects the idea.
  • Thomas revealed on Twitter that Marinette and Adrien will be seen as a "real couple" at some point in the show.
    • In "Gorizilla", she was referred to as Adrien's girlfriend, though in that case, it was due to public misperception.
    • During "Oblivio", through their amnesiac state Marinette and Adrien briefly become a couple until their memories were restored.
    • In "Cat Blanc", they were in a romantic relationship in an alternative future.
  • Thomas noted that Marinette would be hard to akumatize, as she is an optimistic person.
    • She was almost akumatized in "Zombizou", but her negative emotions faded away before the akuma could infect an object of hers. This is seen again in "Chameleon".
    • However, in the episode "Ladybug", she was infected with a scarlet akuma, but the akumatization stopped due to Catalyst's sickness from the Peacock Miraculous, forcing Gabriel/Scarlet Moth, to call off the plan and revert everyone back, with Marinette never fully accepting the scarlet akuma and becoming the aptly-dubbed "Princess Justice" before Gabriel cancelled the plan.
    • Marinette was almost akumatized in an alternate future as seen in "Cat Blanc", but Cat Noir used Cataclysm on the akuma.
    • In the special Miraculous Paris, Marinette was willingly akumatized, or in this case, Kamikotized, into Ladybiquity, a superheroine capable of connecting with her parallel selves to fight through them against Monarch as he tried to steal the Miraculous from other universes.
  • Her responsibilities as a superhero not only include fighting akumatized villains but also patrolling and many other things.
  • In the French dub of "The Evillustrator", Cat Noir addressed her civilian self as "Princess" twice. It has since become a famous trope in fanfictions.
  • In "Sandboy", Marinette's greatest fears are Adrien being in love with Chloé and losing her powers as Ladybug, rendering her as a useless superhero, thus being unable to save the day.
  • She had got a new suit and a motorcycle in Season 4. The modified suit triggers when she uses her lucky charm.
  • In "Gang of Secrets", she revealed to Alya Césaire that she is Ladybug.
