Steve(mononymous)is the main protagonist to the popular sandbox game, Minecraft. Despite being one of the most iconic characters in video game culture, very little is known about him. He is one of two default playable characters; the other being Alex. According to theory, Steve is one of the last humans alive after a deadly virus rushed in, killing most, and turning the rest into bloodthirsty monsters, such as skeletons, zombies, husks, etc. It's up to him to save earth.

Being one of two playable characters, Steve is the more notable out of the two. He has been featured in an unofficial animated YouTube series, An Eggs Guide to Minecraft as one of the main characters; the other being Jason.[1] He has also made a cameo in Borderlands 2.[2]

In popular culture

Steve has become a video gaming sensation since the birth of Minecraft.[citation needed] He has been featured on numerous occasions, particularly in the Minecraft universe. He has been featured in various Minecraft-based YouTube animation series, one of them is An Egg's Guide to Minecraft by Element Animation.[1] The YouTube series marked the popular rise of Element Animation, introducing Jason the Egg into the realm of Minecraft. Another series, Annoying Villagers by MrFudgeMonkeyz, featured him as the main heroic protagonist with complex personality and backstory.

Other popular video game franchises have also included Steve in the game. He can be seen in Borderlands 2.[2] In Hybrid, Steve's head is unlockable to those who managed to reach level 20 as the Paladin.[3][4]

In Retro City Rampage, Steve plays as an unlockable character. Unlocking him will also unlock "Big Head" mode.[citation needed]

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Steve and his female counterpart Alex appear as playable characters as a part of the DLC Pack 2.
