"I was just wondering if you wanted to HANG out with me and smoke weed and fill our bellies with DIET soda and play Burnout: Revenge for the PS2."
- Mr. Landlord
Mr. Landlord is the main antagonist of the Smiling Friends episode "A Allan Adventure". He is the psychotic landlord of Allan Red, whom the landlord desperately wishes to hang out with in his apartment. This leads him to orchestrate an entire adventure for Allan to sabotage his quest for a box of paper clips.
He is voiced by the series' creator, Zach Hadel.
Appearance[]
He is a humanoid critter with light blue skin, a gangly and emaciated body, and two large eyes on the top of his head. His eyes are different colors—one green and the other pink—with both scleras slightly red. He has three thin hairs sprouting from the back of his head, large gums, and yellow teeth.
He typically does not wear clothes, but at the end of the episode, he dons a brown trench coat over a suicide bomber's vest.
His skin turns pale when he comes back to life at the morgue, also gaining small bumps and warts across his body.
Personality[]
He is a completely unhinged and eccentric individual who is constantly obsessing over Allan. He always tries to get Allan to join him in his weed and diet soda-fueled gaming sessions, even planning a $750,000 scheme for 8 months just to get him to play with him. This scheme shows Mr. Landlord's callousness towards other people, as he was indirectly responsible for the deaths of several people and threatened to kill even more people and blow up the entire city should Allan deny his request. He also acts erratically, randomly screaming certain words when he speaks, laughing hysterically, and scurrying around his apartment complex.
Mr. Landlord is also an obnoxious person in a casual sense, constantly mocking Allan and making it impossible to beat him in the game by ramming him and accusing him of not even trying.
Despite this, he has a sense of remorse and shame, as he tries to commit seppuku upon having his plans foiled, believing that he has failed his ancestors.
Biography[]
As Allan goes through his morning routine, Mr. Landlord comes to his door and invites Allan to hang out with him, where they can smoke weed, drink diet soda, and play Burnout: Revenge on the PS2. Allan declines the offer, as he has to go to work. Mr. Landlord tells Allan to suit himself before scurrying away.
At work, Allan is assigned to pick up a box of paperclips for the office. Unfortunately, every place in the city is out of them, save for a single store that has one box. The paperclips are repeatedly stolen from Allan—first by DJ Spit, leading to an airborne battle with the US military, then by Bigfoot, and finally by a crew of skeleton pirates. When Allan finally gets the box back, he finds it empty, except for a note directing him back to his apartment complex.
Once there, he meets his landlord, who reveals that he orchestrated Allan's whole day, having spent $750,000 of his own money, planned for over eight months, and employed dozens of paid actors and animatronics. The end goal of this elaborate scheme was to force Allan to hang out with him. Allan attempts to simply knock Mr. Landlord out and take the paperclips back, but Mr. Landlord reveals that he is wearing a suicide bomber vest and threatens to destroy the city unless Allan hangs out with him. As the two play Burnout: Revenge, Allan uses one of the paperclips to disable Mr. Landlord's vest. His plan foiled, Mr. Landlord commits suicide by stabbing himself with a katana mounted on the wall.
In the post-credits scene, Mr. Landlord comes back to life at the morgue and declares that Allan will hang out with him again.
