Marlin is a clownfish in the 2003 Pixar animated movie Finding Nemo and its 2016 sequel, Finding Dory. He lost his wife Coral and almost all of their eggs when a barracuda attacked. Marlin became extremely overprotective of his son Nemo who hatched from the only surviving egg and was born with a lame right fin.
On Nemo's first day of school, Marlin became distracted while talking with the teacher. Nemo snuck away and was captured by a scuba diver. Marlin then began a journey to find his son. Along the way, he met a blue tang fish named Dory, three sharks who have pledged to stop eating fish and a group of sea turtles that helped him ride the ocean currents to Sydney, Australia, the address on the diving mask he and Dory found.
As a result of his journey, he became less uptight after reuniting with his son and learning to tell jokes.
In Finding Dory, Marlin and Nemo accompanied Dory on her journey to find her parents after she starts having flashbacks that help her begin remembering them.
