Bio[]
Malbolge is the titular antagonist of the indie horror game Malbolge's Calligraphy Class. They are from a planet called Xaclorgia, and were created to teach written language on Earth. They have a short temper, and will kill anyone who fails to pass their class. If you pass, however, they will bestow the privilege of becoming a pen onto you. They were introduced in Malbolge's Calligraphy Class, which was made for the April 2023 Pizza Jam under the theme "Will the Good Child Become a Brush? - Cursed Calligraphy Class". Malbolge obtained a very small following, and made a cameo in a subsequent Pizza Jam game "No Strings Attached". In Malbolge's Calligraphy Class, they are voiced by the game's creator, Ann Saud, using voice clips of her talking in reverse and pitched down. Their design was also inspired by the Pizza Grannies from 2023 Tour de Pizza game Pizza Tower.
Appearance[]
Malbolge is a yellow blob-like creature with large red lips, and green droopy eyes. They also wear a gray beret. When they are angry, their eyes are replaced with completely black holes.
In No Strings Attached, they appear as a cameo and are represented as a cardboard cutout of themselves on a stick poking out of a bush.
Personality[]
Malbolge, at first, is a calm and apathetic teacher who was created to teach written language and calligraphy to the human race. However, when you start the class, they are shown to actively enjoy students' suffering, as shown by their attempts to sabotage the player. They smile when freezing the player's text box, and give them progressively harder words to trip them up. They feel almost no remorse for their actions.
However, when the player succeeds at spelling everything correctly, they seem impressed and bestow the honor of becoming a pen onto the player, not as a punishment, but a reward.
As extra details, the creator of Malbolge has said that the character has a deep hatred for dolphins, likely due to them not knowing how to write despite being one of the most intelligent animals. This shows their disdain for anything that pretends to be intelligent without knowing anything about their interests. This also shows their own ego about their intelligence over other inferior beings.
