Lucius Varus was a Roman soldier, who unwittingly attained the gift of immortality. As centuries passed, he became increasingly murderous and sadistic in nature, indulging in numerous high-profile and unsolved killing sprees. He seemingly died during World War II, whilst in the process of murdering the crew of a North Atlantic Convoy Ship, which was then sunk during a surprise attack by a German Pocket Battleship.

Early Life[]

Not much is known of Varus's early life.

He was a Centurion in the Roman Army during the reign of Emperor Augustus and was deployed along with the rest of the 19th Legion to restore order to Germania in AD 9.

During the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest, his unit was ambushed by forces loyal to the traitor, Arminus.

As the fight progressed, Varus became isolated from the rest of his men, and was attacked by an enemy warrior. With both combatants having managed to mortally wound one another, the Centurion collapsed, becoming trapped underneath the corpse of his assailant.

In an effort to stay alive, Varus attempted to feast on the body of his killer, and in doing so discovered he was able to achieve immense strength in the process.

Renewed and emboldened, he then managed to fight his way out of the forest, and returned home to Rome.

Through The Ages[]

Varus went on to discover that as he continued to consume live human flesh, he could not age or grow ill.

Realizing that in essence, he had somehow attained immortality he went on to amass great wealth and influence, whilst secretly feeding off a regular supply of hapless victims.

As the empire went on to decline around him, Varus grew tired of the status and wealth he had managed to amass, as his allies and enemies died off around him.

He began to travel the world, becoming increasingly sadistic and murderous with each passing decade.

Over the centuries, he associated with the likes of Elizabeth Bathory, and the infamous Beaney cannibal clan.

Varus was responsible for the Whitechapel Prostitute murders, the Man From The Train slayings, and also the massacre at Hinterkaifeck.

His preferred method for carrying out his murders was to use his army sword, the one relic of the past he had chosen to retain.

Luc Wynn[]

At the outbreak of World War II, Varus was residing in the United States of America. But previous experience during The Great War had taught him that he could kill without fear of detection, whilst operating in the vicinity of a greater conflict.

Adopting the identity of a doctor named Luc Wynn, he advertised his services to the convoy ships crossing the North Atlantic, killing off various crew members and then explaining their deaths away as accidents or medical issues.

In November 1940, he had joined the crew of a British tanker named the Brickleigh Bridge, which was bound for England as part of Convoy HX 84.

Unfortunately for Wynn, his identity was known to a teenage stowaway named Jessica, who had followed him onto the ship after he murdered her family.

Deciding that the best way to hide his secret was to slaughter the entire crew, Varus was in the process of executing his plan when the convoy was attacked by a German pocket battleship, the Admiral Scheer.

During a confrontation with survivors on the bridge of the stricken vessel, Varus found himself handcuffed to the bridge controls by Jessica.

Unable to free himself in time, he was still trapped on the bridge as the Brickleigh Bridge sank down below the waves.

It is currently unknown if this finally killed him or if his immortality was able to keep him alive but forever trapped under the sea.
