Lion[]

Lion is a fictional character from the Steven Universe franchise. He is a pink lion that aids Steven and the Crystal Gems on their various adventures.

Appearance[]

Lion is a lion with pink fur and a light pink mane. He has round ears and a burgundy colored, heart-shaped nose. The shape of his large, fluffy mane often resembles a star. Tufts of his mane are visible over the bottoms of his ears, as well as the sides of his face.

Personality[]

Lion typically exhibits behavior associated with house cats, such as sleeping excessively, jumping into boxes, and an apparent disregard for his surroundings. Despite his natural feline apathy, he still cares deeply for Steven, and aids in the protection of Earth.

History[]

An unknown time before the birth of Steven (presumably centuries before the events of the series), Lion was one of the normal lions owned by Rose Quartz. It can be assumed that Lion eventually reached the end of his mortal life, and was brought back to life by Rose Quartz's healing tears, causing his pink coloration and abilities.

Lion was left to wander the desert and watch over the corrupted Desert Glass, where he was eventually found and befriended by Steven.

Relationships[]

Steven Universe[]

Lion was quickly befriended by Steven in the episode Steven's Lion, and became a faithful companion. Lion doesn't always listen to Steven, but continues to aid him and the Crystal Gems nonetheless.

Cat Steven[]

Lion and Cat Steven appear to be friendly with each other, with Cat Steven occasionally resting on Lion's mane.

Powers and Abilities[]

  • Water Walking: Lion is able to walk on water.
  • Portal Generation: Lion is able to summon a portal by roaring. Longer range portals, such as to The Moon, appear to tire him.
  • Pocket Dimension: Lion's mane contains a pocket dimension, where Rose Quartz and Steven have stored various objects. This dimension is also connected to Lars Barriga's hair.

Trivia[]

  • Lion is named after Rebecca Sugar's cat.
  • The original concept for Lion was an unsettling lion similar to medieval heraldry, with a face frozen in a creepy smile.
  • Lion's fur and mane are the same color as Lars Barriga's skin and hair.
