Libido is a muppet character from the TV series, CityKids. He is a member of a trio of muppets who appears recurringly in the Inside the Head segments and resides in the operating mind. As one of the personifications of the Freudian ideas, he represents id, which deals with primitive emotions. Because of his unbridled nature, he has to be kept locked in a cage. He was puppeteered by John Henson.
About Libido[]
In "Pilot", Libido and his cohorts are shown in the mind of David, who has a thing for a girl named Freida. Libido twiddles his fingers, then repeats the word "kiss!" excitedly and desperately as that's what he wants David to do. As Captain and Lieutenant argue about what they should get David to do, Libido gets impatient and frustrated, rattling his cage. He then repeats that he "must have it!". When Freida rejects David's request to go out with him, Libido lets out a long wail as an alarm goes off in David's mind. Captain and Lieutenant panic and flee the area before David faints in shock.
In "Becoming a Man", David wants to have a bar mitzvah simply so he can get a new CD player. Libido is seen fidgeting in his cage while Captain gives Lieutenant the order to keep David's system steady.
In "The Curse of Ali Baba", Libido and the others are shown in the mind of Tito, who is about to lose it when he sees his sister talk to a guy he disapproves. Libido is about to lose it as well and the alarm for "seeing red" sounds. Enraged, the door to Libido's cage opens and he escapes, going to the button that indicates Tito's rage and instantly presses it.
In "Pack of Lies", in the mind of Snoopy, Libido and the others panic after Snoopy is picked by his professor to answer a question. Libido screams repeatedly, "Help me!", as he and the others aren't sure what to do. When they're shown again, they're even more panicky when Snoopy's system gets out of hand and Captain tries to stabilize it.
Physical Appearance[]
The prototypical Libido's design is different from the other version that appeared in other episodes. This Libido is purple with dark and light shades of unkempt, purple hair; has a round head; large, cyber yellow eyes with black pupils; manic grin with tombstone teeth; a cyber yellow collar, purple fur; and wears white gloves.
The redesigned Libido has a vertical, cylindrical head that is mostly raspberry red and a sky blue outline at the top of his head; white eyes with black pupils and sky blue bags under the eyes; manic grin with tombstone teeth; multicolored, unkempt hair that seem to be made of wires; dark brown fur with what appears to be multicolored pieces of lint; and wears cyber yellow gloves.
Personality[]
As the id, Libido is the most irrational of the Freudian trio. He is wild, primal, loud, rambling, restless, impatient, insatiable, frustrative, lustful, yearning, obsessive, impulsive, and emotional. He also has a one-track mind as once he sets his sights on something, he'll stop at nothing from trying to get it. He acts like an institutionalized mental patient and just can't sit still. Since he's the least sensible of the three, Captain and Lieutenant must work in conjunction to keep his from doing anything too rash and let his emotions get the better of them.
