Kevin Hartman-Wong (formally Wong) is the father of Mya and stepfather of Oliver.
Characteristics[]
Personality[]
Kevin cares about his daughter Mya very much. Although Kevin was depressed after his wife died, he still tried his hardest to make Mya happy and enjoy life again.
When he met and started dating Sandy, he began to feel happy again, and believed the same could be done for Mya.
Although Mya was upset about having Sandy and Oliver in her life at first, he believed that eventually she would come around to the idea. When he proposed to Sandy, he was 100% convinced that Mya would be happy to have their family expanded. He didn't know that Mya actually hated Oliver.
He is shown to be a bit goofy and weird, as he entered Mya’s room saying "Yoo-hoo! Helloooo!", and he was excited to give Mya an electric toothbrush for Christmas. He went trick-or-treating with Mya and dressed as the Joker, a comic book villain. He also likes making corny Christmas cards with puns, although he briefly stopped doing this after his wife died, most likely because he and Mya were too upset. He started it back up after marrying Sandy, when his mental state had improved.
When he met Oliver for the first time, he was not upset at Oliver for tackling him and bombarding him with questions. Instead he found it flattering and endearing. When Oliver climbed a tree at their wedding instead of getting ready to pose for a picture, Sandy was fearful of Oliver falling and hurting himself, Mya was angry at Oliver for his annoying behavior, but Kevin was humorously more concerned about the boy ruining his new tuxedo.
He was very relieved to see the children safe after their balloon "crashed", even expressing how angry he was at Octavian for endangering his kids and mysteriously disappearing. He is seen shaking Maria's hand after he and Sandy introduce themselves to her, showing he is a friendly and approachable person.
Appearance[]
He has short black hair, fair skin, and a dark green sweater and grey shirt with brown pants. In the flashback, he is tinted tan.
Storyline[]
He, Mya, and Mya's mother are enjoying Christmas, when Mya's mother falls ill. They take her to the hospital, and she dies. Even though he is very upset, he still tries to make Mya feel better and wants her to enjoy her life.
A year passes, and he meets Sandy Hartman, who's husband had left her and Oliver a year prior. The two of them start dating for months, all while having Oliver and Mya hang out together so they can become friends. One day, when they all were in the park, Kevin proposed to Sandy, and soon they got married.
One day the family goes to the hot air balloon park, and that's where the story began. At the end of the story, Kevin and Sandy were worried when the children's balloon "crashed", and were happy to see how close the children had gotten.
Relationships[]
Family[]
Mrs. Wong[]
Kevin is never seen interacting with Mrs. Wong in detail, but based on their appearances together they are shown to be very close and loving, holding hands and Kevin's hand on her shoulder.
After his wife passed away, Kevin became unhappy, though he focused on trying to make Mya happy. At one point he admitted that until he met Sandy, he didn't think he could ever be as happy as he was when he was with Mrs. Wong.
Mya[]
Kevin and his daughter Mya have a complicated, but ultimately loving relationship. Kevin took care of Mya after her mother died. Mya misses her mother very much, and Kevin tried to help her through her depression.
Mya did not want to upset her father, so she was reluctant to tell him how she really felt. During her depression she isolated herself from him because she did not find the same joy in family activities without her other parent present, and she didn't want to bring him down. Mya was not very happy when Kevin met and dated Sandy, but again she kept her true feelings about the situation hidden in order to not ruin his newfound happiness, to the point where Kevin was convinced that Mya was happy with Oliver (who she hated) and that she'd be happy with his marriage to Sandy.
After her adventure in Poptropica with Oliver and Jorge, Mya learned to express her feelings and be more open and vulnerable. She also began to accept her new life, so it's assumed that her relationship with Kevin improved and got back to how it was before her mother's death.
Sandy[]
It's unknown how Kevin and Sandy met, but they both started dating about 2 years after their respective spouses were gone. They are shown to have a loving relationship, dating for several months and enjoying each other's company, holding hands, etc. Even though they've dated for less than a year, they both were ready to get married, and the transition seemed to go smoothly. They are very happy together, and at the end of the story they are happy to see how close their children have gotten.
Oliver[]
Kevin and Oliver got off to a great start. Sandy introduced Oliver to Kevin, and Oliver was so excited to meet Kevin that he tackled him in a hug and bombarded him with questions. Instead of getting angry or annoyed, Kevin found Oliver's display of affection endearing and liked the attention. Kevin enjoys Oliver's company.
Friends[]
Maria[]
Kevin and Sandy met Maria at the end of the story, when the children’s balloon crashed. Kevin and Maria acknowledge how close their children have gotten, and the parents formally introduce themselves, with Kevin and Maria shaking hands.
Enemies[]
Octavian[]
Kevin was very angry that Octavian crashed the children’s balloon and disappeared, calling him a “maniac”.
