Joey is a character from the CBS Storybreak episode, "The Shy Stegosaurus of Cricket Creek". He is Joan's brother and they meet a live, talking stegosaur named George after they're rescued. They also help foil three bank robbers. He was voiced by David McLaughlin.

About Joey[]

Joey and Joan race each other on horseback to the corral. Their mother calls them to bring a lunch bag to their father. While riding horseback, he attempts to seize it, but misses. His sister ends up getting it instead. The two are also requested to go town to buy supplies from a general store. After their dad's lunch is brought to him and learning the family might have to move again if his excavation for dinosaur bones isn't successful, Joey takes a short cut with his horse while Joan follows him with hers. Joey's horse halts and he's thrown off his steed. Soon, he finds out why his horse stopped suddenly, as he finds out from Joan, who notices there's a rattlesnake behind him. She defends him and tells him to go, but the rattler approaches them and they hold each other closely, and tightly, anticipating the worst. Then, a giant creature's tail unexpectedly appears, swiping the snake aside. The creature is a live, male stegosaur who can actually speak. The siblings are dumbfounded, hardly believing the sight of this. The stegosaur says they should thank him for coming to their rescue, which they do. He explains that he's the last, surviving, prehistoric reptile of his kind and he mostly keeps to himself to avoid unwanted attention since he's so shy. But he was willing to make those two exceptions, coming to their aid. Joey still finds it hard to believe that any dinosaur can speak, but the stegosaur asks him if he's ever met any others who have proved him otherwise. He tells them they can call his name should they ever be in trouble again. The only thing is, they don't know his name and he tells them he's nameless. After Joan suggested Fred and Joey suggested Murray, the stegosaur didn't feel that either of those names suited him. Joan then suggests George and he's satisfied with that, as he likes the way it rolls of his tongue when he says it.

Joey and Joan arrive in town where they see a boy named Mark. Joey begins to tell him they found a real, live, talking dinosaur, despite he and Joan vowing to keep George's secret and agreeing to that. But with no proof, Mark finds this farfetched. Joan scolds Joey for his betrayal, but he says he tells Mark everything and doesn't see the point in having secrets if he can't share. They visit the general store's owner, Mr. Clarkson, when a frantic man enters to announce that there's been a bank robbery. Joey and Joan are interrogated by the police whether they know anything about this or not, but they say they were in the store at the time and weren't aware of it until after they heard about it. Joey rides with the police to the excavation site where his dad and Joan's dad is while Joan goes off to find George. While riding her horse, Cloudy, across the road and prior to getting to town, Joan came across two men riding in a black sedan earlier and they, as well as a third man, are revealed to be the robbers. At the excavation site, one of the policemen tells Joey and his dad that the robbers always travel by car to the banks they rob, then take off in a plane, ensuring their better chance of having clean getaways. Joey and his dad ride together with the cops to search for the robbers.

After the robbers' attempt to kidnap and punish Joan, and George comes to save the day again, Joey, his dad, and the police get to the area where the others are in time. As the robbers are brought into custody, the kids' dad finds a chewing gum-covered, stegosaur tooth spat out and left behind by George. Their dad is thrilled to have made this discovery and because of this finding, he tells his kids they won't have to move again after all. Joey and Joan give each other a congratulatory handshake. After hearing about this good news, George is glad for them, but tells the kids he must get going to keep from becoming more well-known to the rest of the world before other paleontologists discover his existence. He tells them to keep him in their thoughts. Joan gives him a going away present. Joey asks Joan what she gave him and it's more sticks of bubblegum, as shown when George blows and pops one, as he heads off at dusk.

Physical Appearance[]

Joey is a slim, pre-teen boy with fair skin, light brown hair with side-swept bangs, and black eyes. He wears a medium gray cowboy hat with a black band around it; a red neckerchief, an ice blue shirt with folded collar, rolled-up sleeves, and fly front; light blue jeans; a black belt with a gray buckle; and medium brown boots.

Personality[]

Joey still tends to be doubtful and skeptical, even when there's proof of a talking dinosaur before him. He's not as loyal as Joan when it comes to keeping secrets as he has a tendency to blab and can't resist sharing. He's rash when it comes to that.
