Joan is a character from the CBS Storybreak episode, "The Shy Stegosaurus of Cricket Creek". She and her brother, Joey, meet George after they're saved by him from a rattlesnake. She, Joey, and George help put a stop to three robbers. She was voiced by Emily Moultrie.

About Joan[]

Joan challenges Joey to a race to the corral and they mount on their horses, riding towards their house. She grabs a lunch bag from their mom to take to their dad. The siblings then carry on with riding off to the excavation site where their dad is. He's busy examining any prehistoric remains he can find. After they get there, he tells Joan and Joey they might have to move away again as they've done several times before, this time from Cricket Creek, if he fails to make any more discoveries. Joan and Joey are then on their way into town to pick up supplies for their mom at the general store. However, before they get there, Joan spots a rattlesnake that's about to attack Joey. She steps in to protect her brother, getting in front of him to shield him from the rattler, telling Joey to get to safety. As the snake moves in on them, they embrace each other and brace themselves for the worst. Luckily for them, they're saved just in time when a stegosaur happens to be nearby and he swipes the serpent aside with his tail. The siblings are stunned at what they just saw and speechless. They're astounded to find a live, talking dinosaur before their very eyes and ears. The stegosaur tells them he should thank him for his help, which they do. The stegosaur explains that he's the last, surviving creature of his kind and even though he doesn't often show himself to others, he makes an exception for Joan and Joey as no one else is around besides them. The stegosaur has a toothache and Joan, who happens to have some sticks of chewing gum, gives him one to chew on to soothe the pain. She blows a bubble of the gum, startling him. She tells him how silly he is, but he denies it, insisting that he's just the last of his kind. The stegosaur tells them if he's awake, they can call his name anytime and he'll be there. But neither Joan nor Joey even know just what his name is. He tells them since he doesn't have one, they'll have to think of one for him. After a couple, previous names don't satisfy the stegosaur, Joan suggests George as his official name on the spot. George is pleased with it, believing it suits him best. When he sees a black car approaching on a road, he frets over other people seeing him, but Joan comes up with a distraction. She rides her horse, Cloudy, across the road. Cloudy blocks the path of a couple men riding in a black sedan and they also happen to be heading into town. She apologizes for this, clearing the path. The men carry on their way.

Following Joan and Joey's arrival in town and at the general store, they hear about a robbery that's committed by the same men Joan came across earlier, though that's unbeknownst to them. Once the siblings learn about the case, they decide to get involved on attempting to have the robbers nabbed. Joey rides with a pair of cops to the excavation site, Southwest Corners, to get their dad while Joan heads back to the plateaus where George is after realizing that they'll notice him when they get there and prevents that from happening. She is startled when she suddenly sees George suddenly appear seemingly out of nowhere, due to his camouflaging technique. Once he hears of this, George gives her a ride to another part of the area. When George sees an airplane flying by, he confuses it for a pterodactyl. Despite Joan trying to tell him otherwise, he's just unconvinced. When Joan and George see the robbers, George suggests letting the so-called "pterodactyl" take care of them. But from the disapproving look she gives him, he figures they can't leave until the robbers are caught and a stakeout is held. When the men move towards where Joan and George are, George goes into camouflage mode again. Unaware of this and that the robbers are near, one of them seizes a frightened Joan, threateningly implies hacking off her nose to teach her a lesson, and attempts to kidnap her. Once George sees her in danger, he comes to her aid. As the men try to force her into the plane, she struggles and resists. As George approaches, he tells her to climb on him, she mounts his neck. George makes the plane sideswipe with his tail. Since some dust kicks up when this occurs, they have no idea what hit them. Joey returns with the police and his dad in the nick of time. Once they get there, George goes into hiding again. As the robbers are taken into custody, the kids' dad finds a chewing gum wad left behind on the ground with a stegosaur tooth stuck in it. Elated at this discovery, he tells his son and daughter that now they won't have to move again after all. Joan and Joey commend each other for a job well done by giving each other handshakes.

George is told the good news by them and even though he's glad for them, he knows this means other paleontologists will find remains, and if more of them find more remains, they'll find him as well. His only solution to this is to move away from Cricket Creek. Joan is teary-eyed about the short time she and Joey had spent together with George. They're sad to see him go, but it's what's best for him. As something for him to remember them by, Joan gives him a boxful of bubblegum sticks. After they bid him adieu, he goes off into the sunset.
