The host (AKA inn-keeper or owner in other translations) is an unnamed antagonist in the 1854 German short poem and song Im schwarzen Walfisch zu Askalon (In the Black Whale of Askalon) by Josef Viktor von Scheffel. He lives in the ancient city Ascalon where he is the manager of the pub called Black Whale. Little is known about him other than he once warned a stranger (who has been drinking for days in his pub) not to consume more than he can afford. When the stranger was unable to pay, he got kicked out of the building.
