Hansel is a character from the Mel-O-Toons episode based on the fairy tale of the same title. He is Gretel's twin brother.
About Hansel[]
Hansel and Gretel are outside their home as the narrator talks about them, and their parents, being poor. Hansel is asked by Gretel to dance with her, but he's too shy and he doesn't know how. She teaches him and they dance together. Then, the two siblings go off to pick strawberries. Hansel then asks Gretel just how they'll return home. Gretel explains they'll leave a trail of bread crumbs and follow them. Once they're done, they see that the bread crumbs have gone missing as a bird has eaten them. With their plan on getting back ruined, they wonder just what they'll do now. They meet a man who introduces himself to them as the Sandman. The Sandman tells them they should get some rest, then sprinkles sleeping dust on them, they get hypnagogic, and doze off to their slumber. When the twins awake, they find a house in front of them that consists of candy and desserts, they can't believe what they're seeing, and think they must still be dreaming. As they go to it and begin eating up the goodies, a witch comes out the house, enraged that they're literally eating her out of house and home. The kids prepare to run off, but she puts a spell on them and they fall into a trance. The witch then tells Hansel she is going to lock him in a cage and fatten him up. When he has become good and fat the witch will bake him into a delicious pie and eat him.
Once the kids are inside the house, the witch prepares food for Hansel to eat while locked up. The witch instructs Hansel to stick out his finger to check how fat he's getting but Hansel sticks out a piece of wood instead because the witch has bad eyesight. Dissatisfied, the witch goes off to prepare more food. While the witch is distracted, Gretel goes to Hansel and tells him she has a plan to get them out of their predicament. Gretel tells Hansel she's going to tell the witch that Hansel has become fat enough to be baked into a pie immediately. This upsets Hansel and he is doubtful it will work, but Gretel tells him to trust in her. After lighting the oven, Gretel gets the witch's attention and convinces her to cook Hansel. The witch goes to take Hansel from his cage but Gretel then ask the witch to look into the oven saying something is wrong with it. While the witch is distracted with doing that, the siblings seize the opportunity. They give the witch a big push into the oven and she is burned into nothingness, no longer a danger. The confections that adorn the house then turn into other kids who had previously been cooked by the witch. The other kids join Hansel and Gretel as they bring the goodies back to the twins' home. The bird from earlier joins them as well and the twins, and their parents, are no longer poor. Hansel and Gretel have another dance-off and wave goodbye to the bird as he flies away.
