Gretel is a character from the Mel-O-Toons episode based on the fairy tale of the same title. She is Hansel's twin sister.
About Gretel[]
Gretel and Hansel are outside their house as the narrator mentions how they, and their parents are poor. Gretel wants to dance and asks Hansel to join her, but he is too shy to try as he says he doesn't know how. She then shows him the moves and they dance together. After, the two siblings decide to go off to pick berries. But Hansel asks her just how they will get back home. Gretel explains that they'll just leave a trail of bread crumbs and use them as their guide to return. When they're finished picking berries, they notice the bread crumbs are missing and see that a bird has eaten them. Now lost, they wonder just what they will do. They come across a man who introduces himself to them as the Sandman. He tells them they should go to sleep and sprinkles them with sleeping dust, causing them to get drowsy and drift off to their slumber. When the twins wake up, they find a house made of various confections and desserts in front of them, they can hardly believe their eyes, and think they must still be dreaming. As they approach and begin to devour the goodies, a witch appears outside the house, furious that they're taking bites out of the confectionery items. They attempt to flee, but before they can, she casts a spell on them, putting them in a trance.
In the house, Hansel is locked in a cage as the witch prepares to eat him and Gretel. While the witch is busy, Gretel approaches Hansel and tells him she has a plan to save him and herself. Hansel isn't so sure about this, but Gretel tells him to trust her. Gretel gets the witch to check inside the oven. When her back is turned, Gretel tells Hansel to help her push the witch into it. They get her into the oven with enough force and she is destroyed, no longer a danger. The confections then turn into other kids, who are revealed to be what they really are all along and they're set free. Hansel, Gretel, and the other kids bring all the goodies back home to Hansel and Gretel's house, the bird from earlier joins them, and the twins, and their parents are not poor anymore. Gretel and Hansel dance once again, and they wave goodbye to the bird as he flies away.
