Esther is the one time protagonist in Esther: The Girl Who Became Queen.

Role in the episode[]

Esther first appears as a normal, young woman. She was talking with her cousin Mordecai about her friend who stole an apple. Esther was afraid that if she confronts her about the apple, then she wouldn't want to be Esther's friend anymore. After Mordecai mentions the song that her grandmother used to sing, Haman shows up. He has been collecting women to choose the wife for Xerxes. Esther tells Haman that she would rather stay at home, but Haman tells her that he doesn't care and commands her to get in his wagon. Esther is about to tell Haman she needs to stay to take care of her cousin Mordecai, but Mordecai shushes her to stop her from revealing that they are family. After Mordecai and Haman have an argument, Haman finally gets Esther to ride on his wagon.

Esther and Mordecai meet up at Xerxes' palace and Mordecai reveals the reason he was shushing her earlier. Haman hated their family and Mordecai knew Esther would be in danger as well if Haman knew that they were related. Esther is frustrated about having to stay in the palace, and asks Mordecai why. Mordecai was not sure, but he tells Esther that God might know the reason why she is in the palace. He then leaves the palace, promising Esther he will come visit her again. Esther then sings to God why she is in the palace, and about what she must do now.

Soon, Esther sings a song her grandmother taught her to Xerxes and Haman. Both enjoy the song and crown Esther as the new queen, but Esther was not happy about her new position. Mordecai comforts her by saying that she will be fine as queen of Persia.

The next day, Mordecai spots the Peaoni Brothers trying to kill Xerxes with a trap, and tells Esther about it so that she can warn Xerxes about the trap. She warns Xerxes on time, and Xerxes thanks Esther for saving his life, but Esther tells him that the one he should be thanking is Mordecai, since he alerted her.

Haman, who became jealous and furious that Xerxes was starting to like Mordecai more than him, tricks Xerxes into banishing Mordecai and his family to the Island of Perpetual Tickling. Mordecai finds the banishment edict and tells Esther about it. He then tells Esther that she must go speak to Xerxes in order to save their family, since Esther was the queen of Persia. However, Esther refuses, since she was afraid that Xerxes would banish her, and that she didn't want to be queen in the first place. Mordecai tells Esther that she needs to be brave to do the right thing, and that God made her queen for such a time as this. He then tells Esther that he and all of the family will pray for her, before he leaves.

Esther once again asks God what she must do, before she starts to see the reason why she became queen. She then decides to become brave, accept her position as queen, and save her people.

The next morning, Esther timidly approaches Xerxes. Since Xerxes loved his queen dearly, he decided not to banish her. When Xerxes asks Esther what she wants, Esther tries to tell him about Haman's plot, but becomes frightened by Haman's glaring and instead invites Xerxes and Haman for dinner. That night, Esther still couldn't tell Haman's plot to Xerxes, and invites them again for dinner.

On her third attempt, Esther finally tells Xerxes Haman's plot to banish her people to the Island of Perpetual Tickling. She also reveals that Mordecai is her cousin and that his family is her family. Xerxes, angered at Haman for making him banish the man who saved his life, his queen, and their people, banishes Haman to the Island of Perpetual Tickling as punishment.

After Haman's banishment, Mordecai replaced Haman as Xerxes' right-hand man, while Esther looks at the sunrise, feeling proud that she saved her people.
