Fictional Characters Wiki

Blisstina "Bliss" Francesca Francia Mariam Alicia Utonium is the overarching protagonist and older sister of 2016 The Powerpuff Girls and the first known living creation of Professor Utonium, appearing in the 2016 Powerpuff Girls reboot. She debuted in Power of Four as the fourth Powerpuff Girl.

Appearance[]

Bliss has dark skin, a light purple dress with a black horizontal line, stretched out white tights that are now leggings, black Mary Jane shoes, and light purple eyes similar to Bunny, her late surrogate niece. Unlike the other Powerpuff girls, she is a teenager, having much wider hips and longer legs. Bliss has long neon cyan hair, with brighter cyan highlights, with a darker cyan outline. She often wears a blue headband with a Cyan, Pink, Green stripes, and pink heart adorned upon it. But, her headband was removed.

In the episode “Never Been Blissed,” she dons a different outfit for the school dance. Her hair is up in a high ponytail, and she is not seen in her headband. Her dress is slightly longer than her normal purple dress, being dark purple with a lighter purple belt and ending at her knees, but not entirely floor length. She also wears white heeled boots.

Personality[]

Bliss is the same delightful bundle of joy as the other three girls. However, she doesn't quite meet the same standards of the "perfect little girl". Bliss has a chemical instability as a result of Chemical W. Because of this, whenever she feels strongly about something, whether it be positive or negative, her powers combine with her emotions, causing harm and destruction to anyone and anything around her. Despite this, Bliss is a nice girl and she finds herself rather horrified with the result of her explosive powers. Because of this, she tries her best to avoid it. Bliss also suffers from anxiety, as a result of her power imbalance, and since anxiety can cause emotions to be out of whack at times when she feels a lot of pressure, her anxious emotions combine with her powers and cause an explosion. With the help of her younger sisters, she is able to do just that and become the crime-fighting hero she's always dreamed of being.

Powers & Abilities[]

Like her younger sisters, Bliss has super strength, durability, and the ability to fly.

  • Electric Generation - When Bliss is emotionally fueled enough, she generates a field of electricity. When released, this unleashes a gigantic, destructive explosion. This is caused by any particularly powerful emotions she may experience.
  • Telekinesis - One of Bliss' unique powers is the ability to move multiple objects through the air without coming in any physical contact with them. She discovered this in "Blisster Sister" when manipulating derby dogs. She later used these powers on The Gnat, moving his limbs, so that he would attack himself. In "Blissfully Unaware", Bliss moved objects around the kitchen, without the Professor's knowledge, so that he'd end up making a pizza instead of a broccoli souffle.
  • Teleportation - Bliss has the power to teleport from one place to another, either at short distances or very long distances.
  • Fusion - Bliss has the ability to combine her entity with other beings, be they good or evil. Ideally, she and the three other girls would form into an ultimate, singular Powerpuff Girl named "Sisterhood". She fused with HIM, not knowing he was evil, but she didn't have any control over their larger creation. However, when fusing with her sisters later on, she had equal control over their ultimate entity.

Trivia[]

  • Her name "Bliss" is actually short for "Blisstina", a parody on the name "Christina".
    • She also has four middle names, "Francesca", "Francia”, "Mariam", and "Alicia" in that order.
    • Her long name might be a reference to Pippi Longstocking and/or Dot from Animaniacs.
    • Her last name was also mentioned as "Utonium", in her introduction, making this the first time a Powerpuff Girl has ever explicitly stated her last name. This supports the theory that the last names of Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup are also "Utonium", being fathered by Professor Utonium.
  • Bliss's introduction to the team brings a lot of "firsts" to the table. She is the first ethnic Powerpuff girl, the first teenage Powerpuff girl, the first Powerpuff girl with an unnatural hair color, hers' being electric blue, the first honorary Powerpuff girl, and the first Powerpuff girl to have full and middle names.
  • In "Blissfully Unaware", she said she likes pizza.
  • In the episode "The Bubbles-Sitters Club", a silhouette of Bliss was seen on a newspaper, before she made her debut in "Power of Four".
  • She is by far the only Powerpuff Girl in the 2016 reboot who didn't show the power to shapeshift.
  • Her signature color is purple, just like that of Bunny's, another "fourth Powerpuff Girl" from an episode of the original series "Twisted Sister".
    • Also similar to Bunny, she is significantly taller and differently shaped than the standard stature of the other three girls, but not to as much of an extent. They are also both unstable in different ways. Bliss with her unstable powers which likely happened due to Chemical W being used to create her rather than X, and Bunny physically due to being made with artificial ingredients with artificial sweetener, dirt, twigs, and random nice items etc.
    • One difference between Bliss and Bunny is that Bliss was created before her sisters, whereas Bunny in the original series was created by Bliss's sisters' 1998 counterparts. However, Bunny didn't last long, exploding in a flash of light.
    • Although there are a lot of differences stated above, fans of the original series thought she was a bad re-hash of her, and as such, kept comparing Bunny to Bliss. This was mostly due to Cartoon Network stating that she was the "4th Powerpuff Girl" in the promos for Power of Four.
  • In Brazilian Portuguese Dub, She (Estrelinha) and Starfire from DC Comics franchises (Estelar)'s names are similar spellings.
  • In English, the character has up to five different voice actors in different regions. In international airings of the episodes "Find Your Bliss", "Bliss Reminisce", "Blisster Sister" and "Blisstersweet Harmony", she is voiced by Masasa Moyo; in the Cartoon Network USA version of all episodes where she has a speaking role (as well as in international airings of "Breaking Bliss", "Never Been Blissed", "In the Doghouse" and "Lights Out"), she is voiced by Olivia Olson, who voices Marceline in Adventure Time and Vanessa Doofenshmirtz in Phineas and Ferb; in the Cartoon Network Africa version, London-based South African singer Toya Delazy—who also produced a cover of the Powerpuff Girls theme song specifically for African audiences—voices Bliss; Australian YouTuber Wendy "Wengie" Huang voices the character in the Cartoon Network Australia version; and British singer and Britain's Got Talent judge Alesha Dixon voices her in Cartoon Network UK airings.
