Even though Balathazar likes to think about himself first, he makes the right decisions in the end. He's daring and sarcastic, and he often doesn't take things as serious as he should. Lying and manipulation isn't anything new to him, but he is loyal and protects people he likes even with his own life. While he did betray Castiel, he did it to help him.
