Baby Madison is a fictional character created in 2005 by Mason Ewing for his holding company, Mason Ewing Corporation, and all its subsidiaries[3].
Concept[]
Origin[]
For several months, along with several close friends, they had the idea of creating a company to launch a clothing brand. Three times a week, they held several meetings in the city of Meaux, located in Seine-et-Marne, France. Since the idea of creating a clothing brand came from the creator Mason Ewing, who wanted to pay tribute[4] to his late mother, Marie Francesca Elong[5] (who passed away at the age of 20 and could not fulfill her dream of having her own clothing company), they decided to name their company "Marie"[6]. However, after research at the INPI, they discovered that there was already another clothing brand with the same name.
During a meeting with all his friends, Mason proposed creating a logo that would be the effigy of the brand. Despite several proposals from the entire team, nothing satisfied Mason. His goal was to find a mascot that would represent everything he had experienced, including racism, suffering, and intolerance. After a hundred meetings with his close ones, he proposed the logo of a baby that would stand out from those generally represented in the media, books, video games, etc. A baby with mixed skin, slanted blue eyes[7] with a blonde lock, symbolizing all the origins of the world and carrying a message of hope and tolerance[8][9]. His friends loved the idea.
At that time, having no money, Mason asked for help from one of his acquaintances who was a graphic designer to bring his logo to life. He made several sketches of the baby on braille paper with a punch to allow the graphic designer to reproduce it as he wished. After more than six months of meticulous work and numerous attempts, the logo, representing a beautiful slightly chubby baby with chubby cheeks, barefoot, and wearing a diaper, finally saw the light of day. From the start, the baby had a pacifier in its mouth. After a few days of reflection, Mason decided to name his logo Baby Madison, a name he knew he would give to his future child, Madison, in homage to his love for the dance "Madison" and the character from the movie Splash, where the actress Daryl Hannah, who played a mermaid, was named Madison.
Unfortunately, as not all his friends believed in the concept of Baby Madison and the company, gradually everyone decided to abandon the ship. Mason found himself alone with Baby Madison. His fixation was to fulfill the dream he had allowed himself since he was very young: to create this company to pay tribute to his mother, Marie. At that time, still living in France, Mason faced a lot of discrimination. His friends and acquaintances did not believe that a blind person could be involved in fashion. Mason approached many companies to get their support and help launch the Baby Madison clothing brand, but unfortunately, all doors were closed to him. As the days passed, he faced insults, mockery, or malicious comments. Sometimes it was very difficult, but he knew he had a challenge: to show the whole world that a disabled person could work in fashion, that this field was not reserved only for the sighted, and that a blind person could also have a chance.
First fashion show[]
So, at the beginning of 2006[10], he decided to organize a fashion show in Paris, the fashion capital, to present the clothing collection with Baby Madison[11]. He managed to motivate several of his friends who worked with him voluntarily, organizing wild castings on the street, recruiting beginner models, and conducting photo shoots. The fashion show took place on September 20, 2006[12]. Still having no budget, Mason bought plain T-shirts in stores[13], removed the labels from the collar, and then went to Châtelet-les-Halles, a district of Paris, to have his very first T-shirts printed with the Baby Madison logo. Working with a young designer named Sarah, they created the very first baggy pants for the Mason Ewing brand. Initially, the first clothing brand with the Baby Madison logo was called Mason Ewing.
Thursday, September 20, 2006[14], was a magical moment for Mason. The fashion show took place at the Vianney salon in the twelfth arrondissement of Paris and was a success. Many international reality TV celebrities, as well as actors from Plus belle la vie, came to support him. On the Internet, you can even see Mason's godfather, fashion designer Olivier Lapidus[15], with his wife Yara, former Mrs. Clooney Céline Balitran[16], and Mason's godmother, the prominent France 2 journalist Dominique Torres[17], among others. That day was the most beautiful day for Mason. The room was filled with journalists. He managed to get big partners such as L'Oréal Professionnel[18], New Balance, Muriel Trueba (former colleague of Madame de Fontenay who had helped him a lot), businessman Franck Kosakevitch (now vice president of Mason Ewing Corp[19]), and many others. This is how he became friends with the TV and radio host Laurent Petitguillaume[20], who did not hesitate to say yes to Mason to organize his first fashion show and others that followed.
That day, Mason was able to show his heart baby, Baby Madison, who made a sensation with the crowd. Everyone in the room applauded this baby who charmed everyone. After this first fashion show, Mason took a few weeks to think and decided that the clothing brand would not bear his name but that of his logo. This is how the ready-to-wear collection was called Madison Color in homage to Baby Madison. As Baby Madison is a baby fighting for the acceptance of disabled and blind people in the world, Mason had the idea of creating the world's first clothing brand with braille[21], an innovative concept that was very complicated to achieve. He took between 6 and 8 months to carefully consider how to implement his idea. He knew very well that adding braille would not be simple but complicated. After 8 months, he finally found how to put braille on T-shirts[22], something that had never been done by anyone in the world. Mason knew that no one believed in it, but he had faith in his idea, in Baby Madison.
Printing[]
After conducting several tests with many print shops, braille on the Madison Color[23] collection finally saw the light of day. For Mason, it is important to specify that at that time, in 2007, when he had the idea of braille[24], many print shops refused to test, saying that it would be useless because it would never work. Mason met many people, especially in the fashion industry, who advised him to give up. However, he was determined to prove to everyone that it could work. He knew that his Baby Madison logo would bring him luck and that all the love he had put into this collection for his mother would eventually bear fruit.
Development[]
Years passed, and Baby Madison continued to evolve in many activities and sports. For example, you could see him playing golf, playing with blocks, dressed as a firefighter, etc. At that time, Mason Ewing will never forget that he was greatly helped and supported by the entrepreneur and businessman Jean-François Hogrel, who offered hundreds of T-shirts, tank tops, and sweatshirts to Mason. This is how he was able to launch a small Madison Color collection with his Baby Madison logo[25]. Subsequently, Baby Madison continued to grow with new logos. You could see him as an American football player, a basketball player, a rocker, a tennis player, and many more[26].
USA arrival[]
In 2011, Mason Ewing set out to conquer the American dream. At first, he lived in New York, in Brooklyn. More than a year later, with his three friends he had left with, he settled in Los Angeles. A dangerous and complicated adventure. At one point, Mason even found himself on the street. He had the chance to meet a wonderful woman working in the entertainment industry, a certain Mary Fry[27], who became his guardian angel. During all this time, Mason gave a new life by creating a company called Mason Ewing Corporation[28], whose emblem was Baby Madison. Despite many difficulties and no visas to live in Los Angeles, his father's native country, and the return to France of his three friends, Mason decided, after living three years in the United States, to return to Meaux, France.
In the meantime, he tried to develop his company, Mason Ewing Corporation, which now bears the acronym MEC. Ewing, not wanting to abandon Baby Madison because he believed in his logo with all his heart, continued to knock on doors until the day he came across his second guardian angel, a man named Tony Coscia. Thanks to Tony, he was able to launch a beautiful collection of T-shirts with Baby Madison and braille[29][30]. His godfather's sister, Eloise Lapidus, had put him in touch with an American textile manufacturer named Richie Williams, and they all worked together to bring the Madison Color brand to life.
The clothing brand[]
As Mason cared a lot about the environment, he wanted his T-shirts to be 100% ecological, made from organic cotton. Above all, he wanted this clothing brand to be accessible to both sighted and blind individuals[31], indicating Baby Madison's activity, the T-shirt color[32], and the size in braille. He wanted his clothing brand to be different from others, to be accessible to everyone. After this adventure with his T-shirts, he had his brand worn by many athletes such as Memphis Depay[33], Emmanuel Petit, Bruno Bellone, Paoline Ekambi, blind Paralympic athlete Timothée Adoplhe nicknamed the White Cheetah, Didier Roustan[34], players from the PSG women's football team[35], players from the men's football teams of Monaco[36] and OL[37], and many others.
Jonathanland and derivatives[]
Then, March 2020 arrived, with the announcement of Covid-19 everywhere in the media. Ewing thought it was out of the question to complain like many people; he was ready to stay home and work hard, setting up several teams that would bring Baby Madison's entire universe to life. For 3 years, everyone worked tirelessly so that Baby Madison's entire universe could come to life, including comics, card games, video games, books, and much more.
During these three years, Mason realized that his beloved baby, Baby Madison, had nothing: no family, no friends, and above all, no one knew where he came from. This is how the world of Baby Madison was born. Now, he lives in Jonathanland, has loving parents, a 10-year-old big brother named Colin, a 5-year-old big sister named Kimberly, friends, a little girlfriend named Savannah, and even his best buddy, a baby husky named Scoot[38].
Mason worked with professionals to create the coat of arms of the city of Baby Madison and brought to life many characters who live in Jonathanland, such as the 16-year-old teenager Eli Tilmann[39], the cyborg Coia, the pin-up committed to the black cause Shelly Gold, and many others that can be discovered throughout the universe of Jonathanland, Baby Madison's fictional municipality[40]. A city where many adventures will happen and which will hold many surprises.
Thanks to his mascot, Mason Ewing is creating many derivative products around his little cherub Baby Madison. As he says, this child has brought him joy and happiness. He also knows that thanks to Baby Madison, MEC has a flourishing future and that only incredible things are going to happen to him. As Baby Madison is an infant committed to disability and the cause of children placed in foster care or orphanages, Mason has created for several years the association SOS Madison International[41] and an organization that fights for the protection of children called the Baby Madison Label[42].
The goal of Mason and the entire MEC leadership is to bring peace to our world, to educate children about tolerance for disability, bullying, and many other battles. Moreover, Mason and his team are thinking big. For two years now, they have launched the very first magazine named after Baby Madison. This magazine, they called it Mag'ison[43]. It is a manga magazine that is a subsidiary of MEC, released for now in France and will be released later in Japan. The opening of a headquarters is planned in the coming years because Mason and most of his colleagues are passionate about manga. In the future, many other projects related to Baby Madison remain secret for now. Mason is very proud because journalists from around the world have come to interview him to talk about Baby Madison, this baby who fascinates the entire Earth.
The creator[]
Early life[]
Mason Ewing is a young visionary creative, born on April 9, 1982, in Cameroon, Douala. Both his parents were of the Jewish faith. From the earliest moments of Mason's life, his mother, Marie Francesca, of Cameroonian and Sicilian origin, sensed the unique destiny of her son. She knew that among all her children, only one would follow in her footsteps in the world of fashion. Marie, from a young age, loved to draw, sew, and create designs. In the 1975s, she acquired many skills from her own mother, Annette. Marie never underwent formal training in styling. In her youth, she enjoyed watching her mother create designs with African fabric called "pagne", fascinated by its vibrant colors. As Marie grew older, her beauty blossomed. She ventured into the fashion industry, modeling for hairstyling sessions. Hairdressers often praised her beautiful, long, thick, and curly hair, resembling that of a Brazilian. This led Marie to decide to sell her hair, allowing hairstylists to use it for making wigs. Over the years, she flourished in her profession and passion. Her ultimate dream was to establish her own clothing business, open a luxury boutique selling the exquisite dresses she crafted, along with patterns, and eventually venture into haute couture. This is how she became famous in Douala.
Many women commissioned elegant dresses from Marie. While pursuing her passion, she took care of her children, whom she loved more than anything. Her dream was to have a large family, believing that life was meaningless without one. Close to her son Mason, she often used him as a model to create clothes not only for him but also for the children in the Pau street neighborhood in Douala. Marie loved making cute overalls for the kids. Mason Ewing remembers a time when his mother made him a stylish red overall. He recalls this because, at that time when he could still see, he had seen several photos of himself at various ages. He had found the famous photo where he wore a short red overall, holding a beautiful flower given to him by his mom. For Mason, his mother was the sunshine of his life, his first love. In interviews, he emphasizes how he loved sitting on the floor next to his mother, playing with colorful pieces of fabric while she was sewing. According to him, these are brief memories he has of his past, but they are the most magical and exciting moments he experienced with his mom. Unfortunately, he didn't have many memories because in 1986, at the age of 4, his mother was killed by her own family. His life dimmed. Today, he has grown up, become an adult, has children, and for him, it's crucial to be surrounded by a mother or a father when you're young. Even though Mason's American father was present and gave him all his love, it could never replace that of his mother Marie, affectionately called Dodo in Cameroon.
Arrival in France[]
Mason Ewing never understood why he and his brothers were separated and how he ended up living with the second love of his life, his great-grandmother Elise, a woman who was a pillar throughout his life and gave him all her love. Until January 1989, Mason was cherished by Elise, who did everything to ensure he lacked nothing. His father, Frederik Ewing, was often present, even though he was busy with his professional affairs. Mason often mentioned that his mother Marie, in her lifetime, was admired for her beauty, kindness, and loving nature, getting along with everyone. It's also said that she was determined and knew what she wanted, refusing to be pushed around. These qualities were inherited by her son. However, for the wounded child he was, when he arrived in France in January 1989, he had only one dream: to fulfill and complete what his mother couldn't finish, to create an empire in the fashion industry, a ready-to-wear company, and later, in the coming years, a second business specializing in haute couture to dress leading actresses, actresses, famous politicians, etc. The more he grew, the more he was fascinated by the artistic world, fashion, and cinema. For him, these two passions helped him endure all those years of suffering, a horrific pain he wouldn't wish upon his worst enemy.
During the time he could see, Ewing loved to draw, watch fashion shows on television, and explore fashion magazines of that era. As he often mentions in interviews, the only happy moments he spent with his tormentor aunt were when she sewed her own dresses because she had a great passion for sewing, although it wasn't her profession (even though she had a lot of talent). Mason always knew that this legacy was something he inherited from his mother. That's why he used to draw a lot secretly, even at school. Unfortunately, in 1996, tragedy struck: he lost his vision. After three weeks in a coma and three months in the hospital, he underwent three head surgeries. Unfortunately, he succumbed in a coma and passed away. Miraculously, against all odds, a divine miracle happened. While all the doctors had declared that he wouldn't make it and that he had eventually passed away, Mason came back to life. But to his great happiness and misfortune, when he opened his eyes, he remained in total darkness. At that moment, as he narrates in his autobiographical book The Eyes of Destiny, since the doctors didn't want to worry him after the coma and death, they told him that his vision would return in some time. The young creator who could no longer see patiently waited in vain. One day, the news came: he would never regain his sight. After leaving the hospital, he moved from one foster home to another, experiencing many adventures. At the age of 19, he found himself homeless. He remembers it as if it were yesterday. It was in 2001. After a traumatic experience at the SAMU social in Paris, France, he was placed in a social hotel in the twelfth arrondissement of Paris, on Claude-Tillier street, where he met the director named David Berly. A man who was a pastor and had a big heart. He decided to believe in Mason, ignoring all the people working with him in the hotel, and gave a 19-year-old blind man a chance to fulfill his dreams in fashion. For David Berly, he wanted to believe in it. This is how Mason Ewing started doing castings in a small reception room at the social hotel. It lasted for several years.
Baby Madison[]
Afterward, he eventually found an apartment, ended up in the city of Meaux, and his destiny began. Daily meetings in his small apartment on Jean Jaurès street with his 8 friends, and after several discussions and reflections, Baby Madison was born. Mason Ewing, over the years, decided to open the world's first clothing brand with Braille, which he called Madison Color, featuring Baby Madison, the emblem of his Madison Color logo. As he often says, "A child doesn't judge, doesn't lie, loves everyone". For him, Madison is not just his baby; it's also his mother Marie's. Many people tend to say that Baby Madison resembles its creator, and Mason is very proud of it because he knows that his mother loved him, provided him with a lot of love, and if he hadn't had his mother Marie Francesca Elong, this strong-willed woman, Baby Madison would never have existed. In this way, over the years, this beautiful logo, a symbol of humanity and love, became the emblem of some other subsidiaries of the American holding company Mason Ewing Corporation. Ewing knows that from above, his mother watches over him, smiles, and is proud of her two children, Baby Madison and him.
Baby Madison comes to life[]
First cartoon[]
In January 2007, Mason Ewing, the creator of Baby Madison, made the decision to form a 3D team by recruiting several young graduates. Without hesitation, he threw them an ambitious challenge: to create, within the French company Les Entreprises Ewing (the subsidiary that is now closed), a pilot episode of The Adventures of Masdison. Supported by businessman Franck Kosakevitch, he offered him offices where he could finally set up his business; located at 16 Place de la Madeleine in Paris. Touched by the generosity of this man, Mason accepted this offer with gratitude.
After his first fashion show at Les Salons Vianey in Paris, Mason settled at Place de la Madeleine, surrounded by a team, with Chantala Gonzague in charge of his image and press relations. During this time, Mason welcomed many personalities into his new offices while working on the Baby Madison universe.
Wanting to expand the universe of his "baby," Mason set out to bring it to life. With a 3D team, he embarked on creating his very first animated series with a pilot episode. At that time, Ewing, close to French videographer Julien Doucet, asked him, along with his friend Jérôme Prévaut and Oriane Hoog, to write the script for the first episode, set in an amusement park. Although he had never worked as a producer in a 3D team, Mason saw it as a challenge. Despite some doubts, Mason Ewing set a three-month deadline to complete this project. Julien, Jérôme, and Oriane immediately got to work, writing the story of Madison at the park. The script, written in a few days, had to be realized by the 3D team, which worked tirelessly to achieve its goal.
About fifteen people were intensely involved in the project, working on characters, animation, and settings. A certain Geoffroy Bonvoust even had the privilege of creating the very first sound effects for Baby Madison's voice. Once the three months of work were respected, Mason finally saw his mascot come to life. This first animated series, not exceeding 7 minutes, told the story of Baby Madison going to an amusement park with his friend Johan. At that time, 3D Baby Madison was not yet detailed enough. Examining the rather cartoonish images of the animated series, one could notice his light brown skin and a tuft of chestnut hair. The two babies went on an adventure in a normally closed playground, getting into many antics. Johan, Baby Madison's friend, looked a lot like him, except for his black skin and blonde tuft, the only distinctive features that set him apart from Baby Madison, who had very light caramel skin and a chestnut tuft. Both toddlers had big blue eyes, and Johan had eyes staring blankly ahead, emotionless due to his blindness. The two friends wore diapers and were barefoot.
At that time, the creative mind had not yet fully defined Baby Madison, but he was already delighted with this first attempt. Above all, he knew that this young team had done a good job, and he was grateful that they had agreed to follow him in this crazy adventure. Producing a 6-minute and 28-second animated episode in 3 months was a challenge, but the group of 3D specialists met the deadline. At that time, at 16 Place de la Madeleine, many meetings took place in its premises. Normally, they should have continued working with Mason in the 3D part. In 2007, however, the young creator failed to secure funds, with investors not rushing to invest. No one had knocked on his doors at Madeleine to offer to invest in his company, Les Entreprises Ewing. Unfortunately, because of this, he had to part ways with these talented workers who had fully invested in this beautiful project.
Gathering opinions[]
Years passed, and Ewing had to leave the Madeleine offices. With financial problems and a nonexistent budget, the company he had opened closed its doors a few months later. However, he continued working on his Baby Madison logo to develop it. Subsequently, the creative mind came up with the idea of conducting a market study in his own way. For a year, with his friend Franck Akapko, a sports educator and member at the time of Mason's SOS Madison International association, they had met most of the football clubs in Seine-et-Marne in France. Mason's goal was to gather the opinions of young footballers, considering that their opinion was crucial, as they would be the ones buying Madison Color clothes in the future. As he often explained, the opinions of these athletes were crucial. For each club visited with Franck, they brought a binder filled with Baby Madison sketches, asking for the opinions of the youth. On each occasion, Mason took notes, taking into account their criticisms. He did the same with young skateboarders he met at Bercy in Paris or near the Bastille, not far from the steps of the Opera. He had extended this approach to other sports such as basketball, tennis, American football, and many more. Thanks to the thousands of boys and girls Mason had talked to and from whom he had collected opinions, the design of Baby Madison had been improved, becoming today a beautiful baby appreciated by all. Ewing is very satisfied with it, as it has become the darling of the youth. His goal is to make Baby Madison the new Mickey Mouse globally, with his own universe, amusement park, streaming platform, toys, merchandise, and much more.
The voices of Madison[]
From 2022 until now, Ewing has been working on other animation projects, video games, cartoons, 3D animated films with Baby Madison. This is how the new French voice of Baby Madison, performed by Nathalie Boyer, a dubbing professional who also works on children's books, was discovered. Today, she has read many children's books published by Ewing Publication, Mason Ewing Corporation's subsidiary. For a year, a 10-year-old American professional named Abby, who does voiceovers for TV and radio commercials, among others, was chosen to dub Madison in the American version.
The goal of the holding company is to bring Baby Madison to life so that one day he can be present in every child's home worldwide. To achieve this, all MEC teams work together to realize this vision. Note that since 2021, Baby Madison finally has his official skin color, his beautiful and legendary blonde tuft, as well as his beautiful blue slanting eyes, irresistible to all who discover his gaze. Moreover, Mason wanted this baby to be healthy and well, so he made him a little sturdy.
Now, in different visuals of Baby Madison, you can see him dressed in different outfits, sometimes sucking his thumb or with his pacifier in his mouth, other times with his bottle, smiling, etc. Madison now has an identity card, a beautiful villa in Jonathanland where he lives with his parents, a very nice baby room, and many other elements that reinforce his realism.
